Re: consequences of venting

when you recirculate the BOV the MAS already compensates for the air dumped back in so your car runs fine... when you vent the air that was originally dumped back in doesnt anymore and the MAS doesnt change. so it still thinks there is more air entering the motor so you run rich... not worth the troubles like your car stalling at intersections, blowing smoke from running rich. the best way to do this is put a 3-3.5" GM MAF in the upper intercooler pipe after the BOV and run the MAF translator so now it measures the correct amount of air entering the motor!

Re: consequences of venting

Yes, DSMlink, AFC, etc, dont do anything to let you vent the BOV. You need to change the air metering system. VPC, MAFt, AEM, etc.

Re: consequences of venting

the translator is about $200 unless you can find it on ebay for cheaper... some people on dsmtuners sell them with the GM MAF sometimes for $200.

yes you can get the MAF sensor from a junkyard!

Eh? All you need to do is zero out everything on the MAF translator and use dsmlink to tune with. Simple as that

It looks like there is a plug on the side of that, what do you plug into that? Is this like a plug & play deal, like I buy the part, install it and drive on????

Re: consequences of venting

The sensor has to have a plug on it so you can use it, just like your stock sensor plugs in. Only in this case you plug it into the translator, then the translator plugs into the cars MAS plug.

Re: consequences of venting

i was venting my greddy for ages till i actually realized I was venting it, lol. not too much of a problem during shifts, just play your gas pedal/clutch timing right and you shouldnt notice too much of a jerk.

So you would still need to by the translator?

Yes, unfortunately. You need both the GM MAF and the MAF translator for it to work properly on our cars. If only the GM MAF were all we needed that would be beautiful...$40 and we could vent flawlessly. Alas, this is not the case.

On a side note, I heard a very nice WRX drive by with what sounded like an Apexi BOV...I heard it from about 100 yards away, and it was louder than my recirc'd 1g from inside the car . Then I remembered Kevin's video vs. the WRX, and just smiled
