Can i change out that HORRIBLE deck in my new 535 ?

Hello Folks - - I just picked up a really nice 1990 535i . It has a tape deck in it, and the system sounds like crap.

Can i simply change out the deck, or will that mess with the computer system in the vehicle ? If i can change it out, what/where are some sources that i'd be able to find one to fit my bezel ?
