MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

I know everyone does the little which is better thing. And honestly i dont really care what you guys say either way cause ive owned both and in my opinion the MX-3 is the bestest best front drive car in the world. But i guess i do care in a way of what yall think cause im askin oh well. Yeah back to the question what car do you think is better in handling accelerating overall all the good stuff.

Re: MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

well what year prelude? stock? modded? need more info... the mx3 is pretty underpowered for a v6, so i would think any lude would win.

Its not underpowered for a V6 its a freakin 1.8L dont know why you would expect much more hp out of something that big all the prelude engines are bigger so more hp not a big deal. But yeah i guess i forgot that i was thinkin 4th gen preludes any of the models i know vtech would stomp the MX-3 along with the Si im sure but hey they do weigh a bit more.

Re: MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

The four cylinder 1.8L ITR b16 generates 200hp. The 1.6L inline b16 Civic Si makes 160hp. One is equal, and one is smaller.

Anyhow, better comparison would be between the 3rd gen Prelude and MX3. They both are roughly around the 2500lb mark, and make similar hp. I would think that the Prelude would handle better, however, because its inline four makes for a better weight distribution than a hefty V6. A friend of mine who owns a second gen (which I believe are similar to third) has an article from C&D that says they have nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

Re: MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

having driven both a 3rd gen prelude (well, it is my car after all) and an mx-3 i can honestly tell you that there is no comparison.

the V6 mx3 may accelerate a bit, but ive raced one, beat it, not really that difficult.

as for handling, id say the prelude again. maybe it does, maybe it doesnt, but it sure inspires more confidence that it does (id be willing to bet the 4WS system absolutely owns the mx3, but ive never driven one)

and then theres build quality. the prelude was built by honda as a quasi luxury sports coupe.

the mx-3 is an economy car.

draw your own conclusions.

oh, and ill over look the "mx3 is the best front wheel drive car ever" comment. its simply not true.

*PS* the 4th and 5th generation prelude both made SCC top sports cars of all time list. even the mazda 323 did. the MX-3, however, was a no show.

I have both a mx3 and a 4th generation lude and the mx3 is a very good little car. it has a good engine to build if you have the money. but i never could find many aftermarket parts at a reasonable price. and i know its no civic w/ a huge abundance of parts but the ones i could find were way over priced to me.

then one day...

i bought my lude which had the h23 in it at the time and there was no comparison. Lude wins hands down. Handling, acceleration, everything. not only that it looks alot cooler than the mx3. Now i have the h22 in it and that just makes it even harder to look back and explain to myself why i wasted the money on my mazda.

oh and by the way i have a mazda mx3 for sale if anyone is interested

Re: MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

I dont know why anyone would think the prelude handles better but whatever own opinion i guess. Personally my prelude handles like shit doesnt stop as well either but it is only a 92 S then ive never heard anything about the Si or Vtec having different suspension and brakes so id assume they handle the same. For the guy that said he had a MX-3 as well as a prelude was it the GS or RS kinda makes a difference GS has better suspension brakes engine hell even aerodynamics than the RS. And now i guess you can give the MX-3 the upperhand instead of the prelude what about the KL-ZE swaps with that its faster than even the Vtec with the same power but hell even the MX-3's that only have the probe 2.5L are just as fast as the Vtec if not faster and thats a 30 hp handicap. And saying that thats not fair well why not the preludes are more expensive with bigger engines from the start so really if anything it evens it up. And the MX-3 isnt classified as a economy car its a sport coupe just like the prelude you want econonmy thats your civics, cavaliers, geos, neons throw away cars like that.

Re: MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

Another thing on the handling what is honda known for cars that last along long time. Mazda cars that are sporty with great handling. (MX-5, RX-7/8) And MX-3 but you guys seem to be stuck on the prelude handling better.

Re: MX-3 GS (of course) vs. prelude?

Yes, the base SOHC model Prelude S has a different suspension than the Si or VTEC. In fact, I'd probably wager that a third gen Si could probably outhandle a fourth gen S.

Rx-7 and Rx-8 are in a totally different class (a true sports car), and the Miata is a roadster. Mx-3 is closer to the Honda CRX, which I'd say a V6 would rape unless its engine had been swapped.

Anyhow, we're not saying the MX-3 is by any means a bad car...

The S, Si, and VTEC had different brakes also. (Actually the S and Si brakes might have been the same, but the VTEC's were slightly different.)

IMO, the 4th gen S is more comparable to the same gen Accord, than it was to the Preludes.

yeah my mx3 was a gs. im not sayin it is a bad car but id rather have my lude over it any day. I like that fact it has a small v6 in it b/c it redlines at 9k. It handles pretty good as well does the lude. My thing is i mosly drag race so handling isnt an issue and the lude has way more potential than the mx3.
