"Muscle" trucks- the closest thing to old school muscle?

It just crossed my mind that the current generation of trucks like the Lightning and SRT Ram may be the closest modern equivalent to old school muscle. I realize that it's a sketchy comparison at best, but bear with me a moment.

In concept, they have many of the same goals as old muscle- big, loud engines, brutal acceleration and torque, with less emphasis on handling than a pure sports car, all while retaining most of the functionality of the original design.

In my opinion, they are probably the closest thing we'll see in this era of expensive fuel and tight emissions laws to a modern muscle car.

Unalike in form, but still somehow similar in concept. Let me know what you think.

Re: "Muscle" trucks- the closest thing to old school muscle?

I would agree, too.
These modern muscle trucks first came out about 10-14 years ago (Chevy 454 SS, Syclone, F150 Ligtning) when there were fewer RWD performance cars available. Except for the Mustang/Camaro/Impala SS, the trucks were the only game in town.
These days we have a few more RWD choices in cars and small trucks, so the big trucks may be a bit less relevant.
