Last night I went racing and cruising. I raced my boy in his MX-6 6cyl. auto, and LOST.
How embarassing. However, I did a bad shift going from 3rd to 4th and totally messed it up.Anywho, I was racing a Celica with 2 fine chicks in it, and when I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd, a loud POP came from the engine compartment. Scared me, but didnt stop me. It happened right when I hit the clutch. I know I need a new clutch (1 thrust bearing is gone), but it never made that sound. It was loud and kinda sounded like a backfire. Any ideas on what this might be? It hasnt done it again, everything inside looks good, and shifting is still perfect. What sup? Thanks

Re: Loud pop! Possible problem??
The pop was long after the messed up shift, tho. I was about 20-30 miles after the fact... I was in every gear after the fact.

YOUR THRUST BEARING IS GONE AND YOU WERE RACING!!!
dude sorry to say, if your thrust bearing is gone so is your motor! thats CW buddy. and if your talking about the throw out bearing, you only have one! so that means something else is fucked up! |

Re: Loud pop! Possible problem??
Maybe its not the trust bearing. One of the springs on my clutch is gone. I think thats something different.
Backfires are caused by plugs? Good, I've got ome ordered anyway. |

Re: Loud pop! Possible problem??
not just plugs but old and or corroded wires can cause your engine to miss.

Any motor ever made can walk. It's just that the 7-bolt 4g63's have a higher chance, since many of them were assembled out of spec at the factory. So yea, a 420a CAN walk, but it's not very common.

Re: Loud pop! Possible problem??
Im still kinda confused. Couple questions...
1) crankwalk is...? 2) trust bearing is...? 3) Spring on clutch is called...? Sorry, but I just want to make sure I got my definitions down pat. Thanks

Re: Loud pop! Possible problem??
1. thrust bearing failure
2. main bearing that the crank rotates and moves one, center bearing 3. there is no spring on the clutch, there is a pressure plate and clutch disk. there is springs in the clutch disk but if those were to break your clutch would be fucked cause the spring would have no where to go |

Re: Loud pop! Possible problem??
So my mechanic is an idiot? Words from his mouth:
"1 of the springs on the clutch either popped or went out. You need a new clutch." He said thisafter I took it in b.c. the clutch pedal makes a 'pop' when hitting it. The engine also moves alil and makes a noise when first accerating. He said that that was also the clutch being messed up. Should I get a second opinion? The clucth works perfectly fine, no slipping, still smooth. No problem. Whats the deal?
