2000 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2

My check engine light came on. I had it diagnosed at firestone and was told it was the egr valve. I bought a egr valve and put it on, but the light is still on. I called the dealershio this time and was told that indeed I need a egr vale but also need the passage way clean. Here are trouble codes that read out... p0401 exhaust gas recirculation flow is in sufficent. p0405 exhaust gas recirculation sensor a circuit low and finally p1404 exhaust gas recirculation (egr) valve pintle stuck/open. Has anyone experienced this problem, if so what did you do? Thanks!

Your old EGR is fine, it just needed to be cleaned along with the EGR tube/port.

details on how to clean it yourself for under 2 bucks.

mag1964- you hit upon one of the most common afflictions of the 1998+ 3.2/3.5L. You almost NEVER have to replace the EGR valve!! Too bad you didn't post here first . 99.9% of the time, it's either the tube to the intake is plugged with carbon, or the pintle on the EGR valve is stopped up with carbon. A simple cleaning is all it takes.
G/luck

Re: 2000 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2

these guys are right except the P0405 worries me a bit this is a circuit code which is not going to set only for a sticking valve sounds like the problem here goes a bit deeper if it is still at the dealer they sould be able to test it the right way they need to check for available voltage, input signal and the two grounds. they can remove the EGR valve and open and close the pintle using the scan tool to see if it is operating as it should be

Egr Valve

Hey guys and Gals,

I just fixed my EGR Codes and Check Engine light on my 99 Rodeo 3.2L
Email me and ill send you pictures and stuff from mine if you like... I bnought the valve (which was bad) from a salvage place in CA......
http://allhyundaiisuzuparts.com/ got it for less than half price of new one. The code was a constant P1404 some of thoise other codes you mention mag1964, sound like open or shorted wiring.......

Any way good luck and let me know if you want pictures i can help in that department........ [email protected]

Good News,

I had a friend who is a mechanic clean the vacuum port and throttle body and the check engine is now off. I passed my inspecton with a breeze. My only regret is purchasing the egr valve. I do know that was not the problem since the CEL did not go off when it was put on. I thought about taking it off and returning it, after all I have 30 days to do so. Should I leave well enough a long? Any suggestion rodeo owners!!

Re: 2000 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2

Just keep the old one as a spare. Lesson learned.
