OT: Got my Wireless Optical Intellimouse!
Off topic, but I use this computer for AF, so anyway....
I just plugged in my wireless optical intellimouse into my laptop. It's USB and has a sending distance of 6ft so you don't have to worry about where the receiver is. The coolest part though is I'm sitting here on the couch with my laptop using a full sized mouse on the blanket. It's got folds, bumps etc from sitting on the couch and still transmits perfectly to the computer. I can even use the t-shirt on my chest in a pinch. A nice addition for those laptop people who are working in odd places. My other favorite gadget is a USB LED light for my laptop. It's got a 16-18" flexble metal arm that can be positioned anwhere. Great for keyboard light at night. I remember in Moab everyone was downloading pictures to their laptops and with the fire bans they were working by the screenlight. Two good mods for the mobile computer Xterra owner. |

Cool!
I don't have the intellimouse, but Rick gave me one of those USB lights for my laptop. It is kind of nifty. Too bad the company won't give me a laptop as cool as yours! ![]() So, does that computer have anything that requires wires?

Yes, there are some wires (mostly firewires). But I now have a portable media editing system that can run anywhere. Now I just have to find some time to use the damn thing. |

uh, I know it's yours!
I was just saying that I wish my laptop were more cool than it is. It works fine and has a great screen, but it's about two years old and weighs a ton. Now your laptop kicks ass! I wish I could hold mine with one hand and roam all over the house surfing the web! ![]() BTW, I sent you a couple messages.

Due to layoffs I now have three sweet laptops sitting on my desk in my office, all converting DVD's as I speak. I don't have any cool USB LCD light (touch typist) but it doesn't matter, I have THREE laptops here hee-hee!
Now, I gotta find some way of getting a video camera. Hey, I guess I could always hook up my webcam and stick it out the window while I drive |

Gimme a wireless non-thumb trackball and I'll be a happy camper. I love trackballs, and I've got one of these:
Just waiting on the wireless version. They've done the rest of their trackball line in wireless already. Brent |

I was just looking at some a few days ago.
So you would recommend them? I'm sick on cleaning the mouse ball and having to pull the stupid wire around. I was going to pick this one up: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/wie_info.asp I have always gone with logitech, are the MS ones as good? |

Logitech
I have the wheeless wired Logitech mouse. It is really nice and tracks better than a wheel mouse.

I couldn't imagine going back to a trackball. The optical intellimouse works so well and smooth. The wireless one is really nice. Just as good, but no more wires.
Brent I just saw a wireless trackball (thumb model) by MS. I never could get the handle of those things though. I need fine hand control for photoshop work. |

Schlud is there something now sticking out of your laptop to pick up the signal or is it something you install internally...I would love one as well but thought there might be somethiung that will interfere when i pack the laptop in the case.
One another topic: Has anyone made the switch to a wireless internet connection? If I only waited 2 more months before I bought my Dell laptop i could have opted for the wireless card/hub for a hell of a lot cheaper than I now have to buy it for. Anyone have suggestions? ...should I wait a few months for the prices to come down?

Yes, there is a receiver that plugs into your USB port. You can pull it out when you pack your laptop.
I have wireless networking and love it. I'm using Airport (Mac) though so I can't offer PC suggestions yet. I might hook my PC up eventually, but it's a desktop and I can get away with Ethernet right now. At MS we use Cisco Aironet networking cards in PC slots. The entire campus is wireless (25,000 people). You can go anywhere in the buildings and be connected. Pretty sweet. Not sure if this is the best home-user solution though (cost, etc). http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/...t/a350c_ds.htm |

Thanks Schlud, I have not looked into the wireless stuff much yet but with the baby coming and the increasing amount of time I have spent answering e-mails each day I need to be able to get out of the home office and still be connected.

You'll like it, especially with the laptop. Chuck and I were working on my truck one time and I was checking someones instructions from the internet out in my garage.

Close,
but not quite. After reading this thread I went out and got a Microsoft Intellimouse (optical) but it's got a wire. I really like the optical and the buttons that can be programmed.
Now I don't have to worry about the cookie crumbs on my mousepad, shoot I don't even need to worry about the mousepad either. :alien2:
