Adding rear sholder belts to a pre-91 Cherokee
Cherokee extrodonairs........
Anybody have experience in installing rear shoulder belts in a pre-91 Cherokee (mine is an 87, factory rear sholders began in 91)? My son is now 2 and 1/2 and has graduated to a booster seat. That was all well and good til I realized my back seats did not have shoulder belts (you would think I would have noticed in the 18 years I've owned the vehicle). Anywho...I need to add rear shoulder belts (or get rid of the Jeep.....aauuuugggghhhh) Document #640 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows 1979-1990 Jeep Cherokees among the vehicles that already have anchor points installed for rear shoulder belts even though they were not installed from the factory until 1991. I also found a retro-fit kit, P#4636414, Jeep produced just for this. The kit has been discontinued I cannot find one. If I could find one of these lying around, I'd be ok. If I had an idea of where the anchors are and how best to install, I could get a set of belts from a newer jeep and install. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to do any jack-leg work that might put my son in danger. Thanks Zeek |

Re: Adding rear sholder belts to a pre-91 Cherokee
The anchor points should already be installed, we took the whole interior kit from a '98 dash/door panels/ seats and seat belts and just installed in an 1987 Cherokee.

Thanks, tgissel. So can I just purchase hardware / belts from a junk yard and install them? Are the anchor points in the same place as they are in later model Jeeps?
