Question Gas/Timing.

I advanced my timing too 12 degrees. Im running 93 octane (which now from reading previous posts, is pointless and can actually hurt my engine). My question is, with the 12 degrees and 93 octane will that eventually create a pinging or detonation. I'm dropping my octane to 89 from now on. Also the knocking or pinging how can it be determined it's from the engine?
Thx.

you shoudl be running on 87, not 89. i run on 87 with 12 degrees and have zero problems. it's cheaper, so be greatful =P

remind us which car you have too

Re: Gas/Timing.

Sorry; made a sig. About the 12 degrees timing, would that be advanced enough to create engine knock/pinging? Or higher advancements are when the issues begin?

Re: Gas/Timing.

Seeing how 10* is stock, I don't see much if any detonation at 12* advanced. For example My GT is set to 14* and I run 87 octane. The GT is stock except for pulleys and exahust. In my notch I run 16* and 89 octane, that car has all the normal bolt on H/C/I etc.

Re: Gas/Timing.

most times, you will notice the engine running rough when it pings, but not always. you should be able to run 14* no problem with 91 octane. different cars in different climates all react differently. so you'll need to test what works best for you.
