Vin number

I have just gotten a volkswagen that was in a timber for about 19 years. My son and husband want to restore it. But we can't find the vin number. We believe it is a 1965. Here is the info we found:

Typ II Fahrgest - Hr 11 5426000
Zund Folge 1-4-3-2 9198285

Can anyone help me with where to locate the vin number?

Re: Vin number

The VIN is stamped into the tunnel under the rear seat at the acess panel for the shifter linkage. It should also have a number plate under the front hood. That 115426000 should be it, if so it is a '65. That engine number looks correct for '65 also.

Re: Re: Vin number

Thanks for the help. We thought the 115426000 number was the chassis number. We'll look under the rear seat too. This should help us get the title switched over. Thanks again.

Re: Vin number

Check the VIN on the title, it may be for the wrong car as 117 is definitely a '67. If the VIN on the title is the same as your car's then they should fix the error & change it to a '67.

the vin number the title has is the same. I talked to dmv and the representitive told me that the year cannot be changed. At the moment I am not sure what I can do. Im pretty sure dmv will make me show some proof stating that the vehicle is a 67 and not a 69. If you know how I can fix this can you please help me.

Thank You, Andre

Re: Vin number

As long as the chasis number matches the number on the title you're okay. DMV can be a pain, If you really want them to fix the error you will probably have to bring them a chart showing VIN's & their years. There are alot of resources online:

Re: Vin number

Check chart in above link, 113 = 1973.
