Exclamation 96 S10 Blazer Idle/Stall problems

Hi,
I am new to automotive forum. I have a 96 blazer (Vortex 6 cylinder) that has trouble holding a solid idle. It is really present during initial startups and while driving coming to a stop. At first I suspecting the fuel pump; however, after some research found that it has one of those high pressure pumps. To me the fuel pump would seam to go completely out; not fail intermittently. After additional research the computer came up as a suspect. Even California gas, screwing with the sensors, came up in my investigating. I am not a mechanic. I like working on cars though to save a little money.

If you can help, I would be grateful,

Von

do a tuneup.

Replace.

Plugs (Proper AC Delco Platinum Plugs Gapped Properly)
Cap & Rotor
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Wires if they haven't been done.

You need to keep your vehicle maintained.

If you have a EGR valve stuck open it will barely idle at all and chug and stall at any red light.

Thanks for the tips guys; however, the Blazer, to a trun for the worse today. Now it won't start at all. It seams to be electrical in nature. Perhaps the control unit. The dash is completly blank. I have power though. My radio, interior lights all work fine. The problem kept getting worse and now nothing. I didn't even get a check engine light. Does any on know where the control unit is located. I checked under the glove compartment. Not there.

Thanks for all the help,

Von

Test your battery and charging system.

The alternator is new and so is the battery. Interior lights up like a x-mas tree still. When the problem first started, all starts were strong. In fact, moments before the dash went out it turned over rapidly. If i turn to ignition only without cranking, I get nothing on the dash board; No seatbelt lights; no readings at all.

Thanks for the comments you been great,

Von

Sounds like your ignition switch either took a shit or went out to lunch.

Yup,
The ignition switch took a dump. I tore the dash all apart, turned the ignition (no power to dash), bumped the ignition switch, the dash came on!!!. Believe it or not AC delco was the cheeper part to buy after market 10 to 20 higher. I installed it and all is great now!!!

Thanks fellas everyone has been so helpfull.
