2002 Accord Special Edition gas pedal issue
126,000 miles on car. When I press the accelerator with my foot it sticks for just a second and then works fine.I dont mean its sticks dangerously but it is no longer smooth. I tried spraying some spray lube on there thinking there might be something in the hardware that needs lubrication. No luck so far.
Does the accelerator mechanism wear out? Any suggestions? Thanks |

Re: 2002 Accord Special Edition gas pedal issue
I'd bet that it's a gunked up throttle body. In fact, if you search for 2002 honda accord gas pedal sticks in google, there are many results with similar issues. Most mention a TSB, but I couldn't find a specific one. Try turning the throttle by hand, to see if there's resistance there.
You can either clean it with it still attached to the manifold, or you can remove it (you'd need a new gasket if you take it off.) Manually open the throttle plate, spray throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner in there, and scrub with a brush (old tooth brush should do), and wipe it down with rags or paper towels. Make sure to scrub it good in the top and bottom of the opening, as well if there's any buildup on the edge and back side of the plate. |
