high idlel
i have a 87 jeep cherokkee that at startup idlel real high won,t kick down what could be the cause any advice please

Lot's of stuff. Could be a vacuum leak, could be a bad sensor, could be a linkage problem.

Not sure what engine you have, but on my 89 JC with 4.0L inline 6 cylinder I had this same thing happen due to a defective Idle speed stepper motor. It costed $87. Make sure you follow the directions that come with the sensor for initial adjustments.

simple fix cost nothing. and is permanent. take out the ips, unscrew the plunger take it out with the plastic spacer and put a thin washer (i used a small star washer) beneath the plastic spacer and put it back togeter. totally stops the rev up. note if washer is too thick the unit wont seat down
