Crap. the gas smell is still there!! :(

Ok, a couple of days ago when I started my car, I forgot to take it out of reverse and I just took my foot off the pedal. I wasn't giving it gas, but the motor was running at about 1k RPM and the whole car jolted backward. I had the Parking Brake engaged, so the car struggled to move for a couple of meters and then the engine stalled.

Anyway, that day I started to smell a strong gas scent while I was driving. Thinking it could be something I hadn't noticed before, I suspected that it could be the Computer Chip I put in, and the fact that I was using 87 Octane Fuel. I put in 91 Octane and the gas smell got considerably lower, it doesn't seep into the cabin anymore, but as soon as I open the door, I can still smell a slight gas odour. It seems to be coming from that space between the front of the door, and the wheel well.

I'm wondering if I screwed up a seal in the Fuel Injectors or something.

Man, anyone have any ideas? I'm gonna let my mechanic take a look at it next week.

Man, this sucks!

Ever Get An Answer?

Did you ever get any answer to the gas smell inside your car? I have a 96 GT and have noticed the same thing inside my car at times...Let me know if you found anything out...I'd sure appreciate a starting place to look anyway.

Honestly I haven't had a chance to start tracing it, although I did notice that the smell tends to come from the bottom left. I'm guessing there may be a hole in the headers/exhaust somewhere? Funny that you ask because I was planning to get this traced on the weekend, as I am going to work on tuning up some stuff (clean up the Spark Plugs/Injectors, etc)

Seems to me that if it was an injector seal you would be able to see some sort of puddling on the intake manifold. Have you grabbed a flash light and looked under the upper to see? And what about oxygen sensors, have you checked those?
