VR4 vs. bolt-ons 5.0L

Hi everyone, and HAPPY FRIDAY! I thought you might enjoy a good story for the weekend. As some of you know, I drive a stock, red '93 3000GT VR4. My father bought my Viper Blue 5.0L Mustang Notch. Its minor modifications are: K&N, Shortie headers, off road H-pipe, custom exhaust w/Flo Pro mufflers (sounds amazing), engine rebuilt and bored to 306ci, electric fan, yada yada yada. He has 3.55's which haven't been installed yet. The following race occured when I owned both cars and had them insured simultaneously (so you can rest assured of my impartiality). My dad was used to driving the VR4 and wasn't afraid to take it to its maximum potential, so I decided to drive the Mustang.

Both of us agreed that the VR4 should take the Mustang from a dig with its AWD advantage and both of us didn't want to reach any really high speeds just in case, so we decided to go from 10-100mph. Traffic was very light at dusk when we went so we had time. The weight breakdown is: I am about 200lbs, my dad about 250lbs, and my brother 175lbs. My dad and brother were in the VR4, just me in the Mustang. With me in the right lane, the Mitsu in the left lane, he gave three honks and I hit it (obviously both in first gear). He hesitated for a fraction of a second so I pulled half a car instantly. I chirped second and kept it pinned, into third, gaining a bit and shut it down at 100 as we planned, with me two cars ahead. We went a second time. This time the initial get-go was dead even with my nose at the front of the Mustang's door through second, until he missed third gear and I pulled away. On the third and final run, my brother switched to my car. This time I gave dad the slight jump after three honks (because I honestly WANTED the VR4 to win for the amount of $$$ I spent on it), but after the initial jump I gave the Stang all she had. This time the VR4 emerged victorious by about three car lengths, and as I backed off the gas at just over 100, the VR4 became a little red spec in the distance. Crazy man.

Since then we have played a bit, dad now drives the Mustang and I the VR4. I was behind him up a long straight hill and we both hit it at the first of second gear and took it to the end of third and no one pulled so much as an INCH. Both these cars are capable and very, very close. We had a camera for the original race and I made a video to music, but it ended up being a massive file size. Maybe I will try to make a smaller one. Hopefully you enjoyed. What story should I tell next time? 2000 Civic Si (my first car) vs. Grand Am GT, Mustang vs. bolt-ons E46 M3, or VR4 vs. H22 Civic? Until next time...

Re: VR4 vs. bolt-ons 5.0L

nice, there are a few 5.0s up hear that I hear driveby almost everyday, but somehow I still havn't met them on the road...them and that supra...then I'll have some stories...unfortunantly I haven't gotten into a good race in quite awhile...I wanna say in all of Sept. which is pretty uncharacteristic. Anyway, I wanna hear this H22 story.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Nice...

If you guys think that's cool, you should hear about the time I let my mom drive the Z set at 12psi.

Now that's comedy, especially when that's the first turbo car she's ever driven. The look on her face was priceless.

RacerD12...if iam not mistaken that engine in your signature is from the greatest supercar(until the Bugatti Veyron with its Quad-turbo 1001BHP W-16 arrives) The Mclaren F1. Is the engine N/A or is it Turboed??
