Oh what have i done???

Got my Primera back today, complete with oil leak, due to a faulty weld on the sump tray, anyways, new one on order. The cars at 8.3:1 compression ratio and i need to clock up 1k miles but it drives like a bag of spanners!! it doesnt accelerate!!! it just revs real slow and makes loadsa noise. im beginning to think why did i bother?? but hopefully over the next few weeks, i should have done the miles, and then i can begin on the turbo install.

That's OK you can say shite here.

What? Is this the process that all turbo-wannabes have to go through to get the best end performance? Or is this only for those adventurous and risk taker, ahem P11GT, who wants to lower their compression ratio? Please tell me it's the latter....

The US spec SR20 are 9.5:1 compression, whereas the Euro Spec ones are 10:1, which is why ours are a little bit quicker than yours:ylsuper but the drawback is that when it comes to turbocharging, 10:1 is far too high, so in order to make the car run reliably and with a reasonable amount of boost, ive opted to lower the compression. 8.3:1 was just a figure i chose because its the same as a SR20DET (GTiR) and therefore, i should be able to run 10 psi no probs or even maybe upto 1 bar. Its for peace of mind.

If youre gonna do it............ do it right, first time.

I completely agree that getting everything right the first time is viable.

Question for you all....will it be safe to run a 10 psi boost on a 9.5:1 compression ratio? Rumour has it that running a 10 psi boost is risky. I've heard someone mentioned that they run at 11.25 psi boost without a problem. Is this true?

Same boost levels depend upon the turbo and other factors, but the biggest by far is the turbo. I can assure you that running 10 psi with a T25 would be a disaster waiting to happen without lowering the compression. However, running 10 psi with a GT3037 would probably be just fine.

Why? Because of the efficiencies of the turbos in that range. I highly suggest reading Mike Kojima's Suck, Squish, Bang, Blow series. Turbocharging doesn't have to be difficult and mysterious, but you do need to do your homework.
