Who uses compression braking

I was just wondering how many people use compression braking. I know it saves your brakes. If you do use it, do you go straight down through the gears or do you skip some, I have seen some people who go 4th to 2nd and then brakes.

Thanks,
Nick

not good. just use the brakes. they're easier to replace than a transmission

Re: Who uses compression braking

If you rev match it wont hurt the clutch as much.

I do, btw.. moreso than I use the brakes.

Re: Who uses compression braking

Well see, I have bad brake pads, they just started squeeking, and I got new ones, but I have worse than stock wheels(guy I bought it from said the stocks got stolen, I think he sold them) but it has one big bolt in the center of all 4 lugs, and I don't have a socket to get it off, I tried a channel lock but it didn't work. Time for a new socket, I guess. So for now I am just using compression braking down to like 10 mph, then pushing the brakes.

Match the engine speed with the vehicle speed in a selected gear. For example. If you are doing around 40 mph and you wanted to be in second gear for the purpose of slowing down using your engines compression, you would rev your car up to about 5800-6000 RPM and release the clutch. If done properly, you will experience no forward or backward surge until you lift off the gas and a smooth clutch engagement.

It takes a bit of practice to learn to do by feel, but you will get the hang of it. It is second nature to me right now, but I still misplace the tach needle sometimes. Have fun.
