Brake Pad replacement Problems
I was trying to replace the rear brake pads on my 93 G20 but ran into some troubles compressing the piston. I looked at the service manuals and it said to rotate the piston clockwise and it will go in. And it did but as I got close to getting it back far enough to get the pads in the boot (rubber thing around piston) got really twisted and in the book it said not to damage that. The twisting seemed bad so I stoped but still cant get the pads on. I dont know if this helps but it was really hard to turn the piston. If any one has any ideas on how I might over come this problem let me know THANKS.

I would try loosening the bleed valve. But definately, seek the second opinion...

The boot will twist when you push the piston in, I know it looks bad but it is normal. And yes you must loosen the bleader valve when you push the piston in especially if you have ABS, pushing the fluid back through the ABS controler is not a good idea. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the help. I got the pads on
 This was the first time I had ever done brakes on any car. My shop teacher had helped me with the front ones but they were alot easier. Well Thank You again I'm glad to have them done.Seanzi

If the boot just twisted not broken, then it is ok. If you really want, you can ( take the caliper off again of course ) use a pocket screw driver, dip some lube, and stick it between the boot and the piston and kind of lube it around the boot, the boot will twist back.
One thing make sure you know: by looking at the rear caliper piston, you can see 4 holes around the piston. Make sure the hole line up to the little metal sticking up from the back of the pad.

Correct - providing you don't empty your master cylinder container. *BUT* I would bleed the whole system anyway - just to be on the safe side. It's not hard at all. And perhaps change the brake fluid - who knows how old it is...

HEy, don't get me wrong, but if you loosen your bleed valve you will have to bleed at least half of the system - LF & RR or RF & LR.
