Tremec T-56

My tranny has been acting up lately 2nd 3rd and 4th sometime grind for no reason at all (the clutch is fully depressed) usually when I come off the line hard it will grind. I figure its a syncro problem and a rebuild or replacement is due. Buying a used T-5 I thought about but I said forget it im going to go for the T-56 ill have 6 gears and a stronger tranny. Its more money but hey you pay for what you get. My question ia what will I need for the T-5 to T-56 swap. This is my first tranny swap.
Thx for any help.

D&D motorsports sells a kit to do a complete conversion. it has a trans, bellhousing, clutch fork, speedo cable, driveshaft, trans crossmember, and crossmember relocation kit i believe (for a fox stang).

www.ddperformance.com

costs something like 2500.

Re: Tremec T-56

I thought about having my T-5 upgraded. The T-56 has 6 gears and its new; My T-5 is old and has been rebuilt, theres really no point in going threw all the trouble.

well the dogringed system is a complete rebuild designated witha 650 hp rating and have been know to be put behind 900 horsepower drag engines so there is no way u could get a t56 to do that and if u are draggin what do u want 6 gears for anyway

#1 Have you ever driven a dog-geared tranny on the street?

#2 Also there is a lot a dog-geared T-5 can't do that a T-56 can do.

If your building a track only car a dog-geared T-5 can be a great choice but for a street/strip car it has some serious shortcomings. They both have their place.

I want the extra gear becuase im running 3.73's and with the extra gear I can take 5th gear all the way. Plus for my application I feel the T-56 is ideal.
