1998 Ford Contour(rough idle.stalls.help)
I have a 1998 Ford Contour 79005 miles 4 cyl.
8 months ago the car started idleing rough, check engine lite came on, soon thereafter the car would die at lites or in park and nuetral. Had the car diagnosed and fixed......#3 valve was burnt out $1000.00 Two weeks ago car was driving allright then all of the sudden car wouldn't get over 40 mph idleing rough dieing at lights. Changed fuel filter, no change changed all 4 plugs no change....but #3 plug was fouled. The car will run ok on runs but still idles rough and eventually dies. now check engine light stays on. I have recieved advice from numerous people such as converter,loose hose,worn out hose,hole in hose..... Please help Thank you Last edited by ChristopherBrown; 09-22-2004 at 06:51 AM.

Whats the code for the check engine light? My guess is a vacuum leak which would definetly cause the rough idling. Not to mention, youll be running lean which could cause your plug to foul. Start up the engine and pop open the hood and listen for any vacuum leaks. First i would take it to an autozone and get the code(s) pulled.

If it were a vaccum leak were would I look to find the leak. Nothing looks out of the ordinary? Thanks again

taking it to autozone Tuesday to check codes.
Only whistling sound comes from belt assembly, probably normal? battery light now goes off and on. Also when turning over engine, feels like engine is dragging for 1 to 2 seconds then starts thank you
