Does anyone know how many watts our system is (they say 100w, but you never know with those advertisements)? How about the SIZE and the WATTage of the speakers (tweeters, door, and back)? What kinda of amp does the car have in the back? because I noticed one the other day. And how many watts is it also? Thanks

Judging by the amp size and wire size, and the because its bose, I'd say not to expect anything more than 40-50w rms out of that amp IF YOUR LUCKY lol.... A normal stock head produces about 11-15 watts rms. Anyways as for the speakers I'd replace them and not worry about what they are "rated" to handle. Again they are bose and over rated - I'd be willing to bet they are probably 2 ohms or less also, and this would eventually kill even the best of aftermarket head units - can anyone confirm this? I'm waiting on all the info on the car from my bud so I can start playing with my stereo.....

Also - Anyone else noticed how pointless the tweeters are? They are aimed at the freakin dash!!!!!

The factory claims its a 100w(max) bose system, but in actuality its probably more like a 12-15w (rms)x 4 channel system. Bose is overrated, it's just a name, anything they make is pretty much crap. They put very little time into the quality and design of anything they put out. They market themselves to the average home and car owner, you know the "mainstream". Quantity over quality. I say get rid of it, I am

For reference, the speakers in the front and rear are 6-1/2" and the amp is, of course, bose.

"no highs, no lows, it must be bose"

:monkeypis BOSE :rocket:

Not to be to smarty pants about it all - but since we (clarion) did the radio (and bose slapped their name on it) I have some expertise on the subject. Anywho - the radios we normally produce for non-bose apps are probably about 10-15w rms not the greatest but hey. The bose amps are actually pretty close to 40-50w rms, most people don't believe it but its true..... We are doing some testing on the amps for the new se-r here (again, we made the radio and RF slapped their logo on them) Anyways the amp is smaller than our bose amps and produces 70w per channel RMS true power.... And to an extra channel for subs....Another factor to consider is that the bose amp is producing power probably at a 1 or 2 ohm rating where as most factory heads are made for four ohm speakers, lowering the impeadance allows most amps to produce more power, but it increases heat and distortion in most cases..... I still agree that no highs no lows it must be bose.... BUT I have to admit it sounds better than SOME factory systems..... Good enough for me, NAH.... so thats why I'm throwin in some Clarion and McIntosh stuff.... gotta love company discount perks!!!!

BTW - anyone here heard the optional McIntosh system in the Subaru Outback - OUTSTANDING!

Chris - Audio nut - and a PC geek, so whatelse to do then become a computer nerd at Clarion? hehehe

I actually think that the stock system on our car is awesome compared to a lot of other cars. I play all rap music, so theres a lot of bass, and when people get in my car they always say how nice the system sounds, even though it doesnt have a sub yet. I will be adding one in a little while.

:o How did Volvo get in this thread ..lol. Yeah the Bose is okay for us non audiophile. I need more oomph and more ahhhhhs. But I'm more concerned with performance at the moment ..engine wise ...no need to weigh the car down with equipment just yet.

u should hear this

The stock system is actually about 25 watts x4 and the front speaker is actually a component system holding about 10 watts to the tweeter and 15 watts to the woofer in the door. But i changed my system i have 2 5 1/4" polk/momo component speakers model mm455 and a pair of 6 3/4" polk/momo speakers model mm465 in the front i also have two 12"polk/momo subwoofer's model mm120 in the trunk in a bandpass box and a Mcintosh amp model MC4000M powering it all it divides 100watts x4 for the main speakers and 300watts x2 for the 12's in one amp! oh and i have a Mcintosh mx406 headunit and a mpm4000 meter module to keep track how many watts im using.check it out at http://www.mcintoshlabs.com :smoka:

i my opinion, its better off to just save some money and pit a whole new stereo system in your G.my set up consist of:
clarion max 2256 head unit w/ tv monitor
2 sets of crystal components door speakers
clarion tv tuner
clarion vcr
clarion 12 disc changer
rockford fosgate 4x400 amp
rockford fosgate 1x1000a1 amp
2 12 inch kicker solobarics
clarion EQ
1 farad capacitor
and a PS2
good luck on your system
i guess its obvious that i voted for Clarion.
