problem with my car :(
Hi all,i have a 1996 bmw 328 and the problem with it is that ,the handling, when i turn left is different then when i turn and go to the right, this means that on the left the car seems to have bad handling and i cant corner with it as fast as i can when cornering to the right side,it feels like it's not same car when cornering right. i even noticed some noises(rarely) from the rear left when i do corner in the left side ,and i feel like something is braking from that side....and this is affecting the car alignement and balance....i took my car to several wheel alignements and mechanics...all agreed with me that the car balance is bad....we then adjusted the balance of the car ,but this didnt solve the problem, and after one week i checked the balance again and it was negative....(badly from the rear ,but just slightly from the front)...i changed the shocks and even springs but i had still the same problem...we even checked on the chassis, but there was nothing wrong.
**Please note that sometimes i feel nothing wrong with the car but when it goes on some bumps or heavy cornering , i feel like something in the rear change position(make noise also) and the problem gets back again(cornering left different than cornering right).something is making the rear left wheel change postion (it is very open SOMETIMES and you can even see it when standing behind the car) since this problem is sometimes occuring, the mechenics told me that the chassis isnt the problem. i think maybe that it is the differencial or the ones wich makes the rear wheels turn(they are attached to the differencial),and i think they can affect the suspension and handling of the car... Please does anybody had the same problem before or have any suggestions on how to solve that problem? thanx you |

Re: problem with my car :(
The forward bushing in the rear lower control arms go bad and can cause the bizzare handling your experiencing due to fore-aft and up-down movement of the front of the arm. The only way to check them properly is have your shop unbolt the arms toe plate from the body and THEN inspect it.....[the toe plate is what mounts the front of the arm to the body through the bushing and where the rear toe-in is adjusted]. Have this done at the shop that has done your "FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS" as it will need to be reset after dissassembly.
