Cruise Control

Anyone have a good lead for an after market Cruise control for my 99 PI?

I've checked with Ford and they don't offer a Kit on this vehicle. I can't get my parts buddy to even think about trying to put together a parts list from individual parts breakdown.

My 93 CV PI was a retired State Police car and has cruise and the 99 is a County car without it.

Any ideas would be apreciated.

Re: Cruise Control

All you really need is the cruise actuator and steering wheel (for the switches).

Plenty of these parts can be found cheaply in salvage yards. Many members of crownvic.net have installed cruise this way for under $50.

Does that also account for the bracking switch? Are the wiring harness connections already there as well?

Would the cruise accuator off of my '93 CV work? That would only leave me with a steering wheel to get...

Re: Cruise Control

Everything is pre-wired on that car. Just plug and play, literally.

See if you can get the p/n off a 99/2000 unit, and compare it to the 93 you have. I would assume it would, but you will need a cruise cable for the 1999, because 93 intake changed since then, therefore the cable is likely a different length.

Re: Re: Cruise Control

OK, Thanks guys.

I'll do some digging around and see what I can find. I just did a short eyeball check between the two and I see that the connectors are there.

Now all I have to do is find the parts. The salvage yards around here are not real well stocked with CVs so does anyone know of any online sources that are reasonable on price and shipping?

I've already put in a request on autoandparts.com which is a parts request line for salvage yards, but any recomended place is better than a shot in the dark...

Re: Cruise Control

I live in Titus, Alabama, which is between Montgomery and B'ham.

This is the tan or brown interior on my '99. My '93 has blue so between the age and color, not much will swap out.

Re: Cruise Control

Hmmm...Ill look around a good wrecking yard for a 99+ wheel in tan/brown. Not a common color way up here in Canada.

If I find one in leather, usually they go for about $75-100Canadian. Ill look this week for you.

Re: Cruise Control

That would be great!

I'd have rather this '99 was in blue but this was a county auction and the county cars tend to be brown and state cars blue. At least in Alabama and Virginia where I got my two from.

I appreciate the assistance. Let me know what you find and I'll keep looking on my end. I'll let you know if I find something so you don't have to go through the effort for nothing.

Hey ModMech,
Where are you folks finding these parts for under $50. So far the lowest quote I have from an on line salvage yard is $200 (US). I'm still looking for something less than that if I can find it...

Thanks for the look anyway. I'll keep looking.

If I have to I can go to FordPartsnetwork.com and get the steering wheel for $50 less than the dealer and scrounge the servo and cable somewhere else.

Re: Cruise Control

go to www.crownvic.net and sign up, post in the parts wanted site. Many many people have parts, or access to parts. It is a great resource there for parts.

Re: Cruise Control

OK. I'll Try there. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I live just north of Montgomery, AL and we just go the power and cable back on after Ivan turned it all off.

Thanks again for the feedback.
