I have a 89 gt...what are the benifits of removing my air silencer and adding an cold air intake? is it something that I can do by myself? and what is the best type to replace it with? K&N?

Re: replace air intake?

You can go with the Cold Air Intake, you'll gain a little horse and the install is fairly simple. There are many choices to pick from BBK is a good one. Check out summitracing.com.

Re: replace air intake?

what's the typical HP gain for this? 5hp maybe? I have the stock intake but a K&N Filter. Is it worth it for me to get a Cold Air Kit?

i'd just go ahead and get it, it'll make a difference in the long run. it isn't that much more expensive than the alternatives, and i think it looks badass, especially the fenderwell kits.
