Re: how does the last gear cog come off, please!!!
Have you removed the axles from the differential housing??
you must remove the axles to allow the differential cage and ring gear removal. (I think that what you call the "vertical cog" is what we refer to as the ring gear) JD |

Re: Re: how does the last gear cog come off, please!!!
Sorry ive probably explained it badly, the man in my local dealers said remove the brake parts drain the oil from the differential, remove the diff. cover, remove the ring parts then the shaft will push in,then there is a clip that you take off and the shaft will slide out,i presume i have to remove the vertical ring gear or i cant get the clip off,its left hand drive and its the pasenger side.

Remove the four bolts that hold the bearing caps on, make a note of the spacers that are on either side and dont mix them.
after the axles are out remove the two side gears, the two that you removed are called spider gears, rotate the pumpkin to where the opening is facing down, put a large pry bar in the hole and pry against the bottom of the differential. the pumpkin should come out. remove the ring gear from the pumkin. good luck |
