high idle?
Ok, here's the deal. I have a 1995 Dodge Neon that just had a transmission rebuild. I'm not entirely pleased with the job they did. The mechanic got an error when he tried to clear the check engine light. Something about not allowing him access to the memory or something like that. Now, tonight I parked my car and when I put the car into park the engine rev'ed up pretty high. I played a round a little bit and concluded that it is rev'ing up when in either neutral or park. when it's in drive or reverse it's fine. When it first happened it just continued to rev until I put it in drive or turned the engine off. Now it revs for a moment then drops to its normal idle. I would like any information that could help me find the problem and hopefully fix it myself. Thank you.

Re: high idle?
I also have a 95 neon that revs up and down when it heats up and eventually stalls. Runs fine again after it cools down. Any help with this????

IT could be a lot of things but there are a few things that i can help with : Check the Temp.Coolent Sensor on the right side of the motor it might need to be changed or its burn in to (mine was ) Or it could be your intake\Outtake Gasket losing air on top of the motor . Then it could be EGR Valve on the left side of the motor . Or the O2 sensor the upward or the downward the upward is the cheapest to fix but the hardest to get to its on the manifold the Downward is on the exhuats right next to the converter . Hope is help !!!! Email me if you need help [email protected]

Re: high idle?
blown manifold gasket or off timeing high idle in park or neutral, blown manifold gasket unless your neon is sohc then there is no manifold gasket that is no bull shit, intake manifold is in the front check inbetween the block and manifold to determaine if it is blown there will usually be so nasty looking shit around there, if you had a tranny put in they might not have had it a tdc(top dead center) which insures that when you adjust the timing, the 1st and 4th cylinder are up or you could have bought a bad tranny especially if you got it from a salvage yard. 3 out of 4 parts you buy from a salvage yards will have problems.
