I'll try and be quick, I appreciate anyone who can help. A couple months ago while having the rear pads replaced some idiot at a service chain (Conrad's in Ohio) got in and road-tested it with the parking brake on. Needless to say, this joint warped the rear-right rotor badly. They thought they had this problem fixed by machining the rotor down (it was brand new). Ever since then, when backing up, I get this awful pulsing/vibrating noise.
However, I had tried to have the problem fixed here in North Dakota. The first guy was very helpful and noticed the rotor was badly warped again and had to take two cuts at it to fix it. But everytime the rotor is machined, the vibrating is back several days later. Another interesting thing is that when I bring the parking brake up very very slightly, like 4 or 5 clicks out of maybe 30 it takes to be fully applied, the noise is gone when reversing. Put the brake lever back down and it's back! I'm almost positive the parking brake is hanging causing this problem, does anyone agree with me on that? Also, how easy is it to have the entire parking brake system replaced? (cost?) Thanks again, Tim |

Thats a pretty tough one... it could be that one of the pads is loose and rubbing against the rotor. It might also have something to do with the fact that the two rotors are now two different thicknesses.
As for replacing the Parking Brake system, thats probably not necessary because you can tighten the cable from the rear end. However, if something was broken, all you really have to replace is the cable and maybe the connection to the pads. I couldnt tell you how much those cost but I cant imagine costing very much. I'd check out the problem in the order I mentioned above (if you havent already checked that out) because it puts the least strain on your wallet. Worst comes to worst, take it to the dealer, nobody knows Maximas like Nissan does! Good Luck!!!
