1997-2000 740il

Hi all I am new to this forum, and new to bmw.
I am trying to buy a 740il 97 to 2000 and if anyone can please tell me about their experiences with those cars. I would like to know whats a reasonable milage for a bimmer thats 7 to 4 years old what kind of mechanical and electrical problems to expect in general.

We have a 98 and we have put 70K miles on it in two years. We bought it with 50 K miles. We have done regular maint and had to replace the Cat converters for a couple of grand,(NOT Covered by the extended warranty) Overall we love it and enjoy it everyday!!! Sean

Look at www.E38.org for common problems with the years you are interested in. The cars are not like Toyotas and Hondas. They require maintenance and care. Really expensive to fix also.
I have had mine for 18 months and only warranty items fixed. Some spend $2k to $5k a year for maintenance and fixes.
