3.1L to a ?

I was wondering what is th ebiggets motor you could drop into a 95 grand am GT 3.1L Someone told me a 3.4 or a 3.8 would fit but it would be hard to change. How much does something like that cost to ave done?

dont really know for sure but from what ive heard, the 3.8 is very difficult and way to expensive to do on a car like a grand am, but ive heard the 3.4 should swap easily. dont know the details but i think that the 3.4 is the same exact engine as teh 3.1 but bored out larger for more displacement. Just by looking at the two it is pretty obvious taht they are identical, everything is in the same place and they practically look like the same motor. i think i remember seeing something about the 3.1 to 3.4 swap on www.60degreev6.com. check out that site for info on it

because of computerized systems, it is not cost effective to try to put and engine other than what came in. The 3.1-3.4 swap is possible because they are from the same engine family, but the 3.4 has only marginally more power, and it wouldn't be worth the time and expense.

Re: 3.1L to a ?

They are all simular , 3.1 3.4 and 3.8's it also depends what year and model the engine came from for example the 3.4 in a grand am is like 170hp and in a impala its 180 or 185 why Im not sure but even a 3.8 would be a fairly subtle change or very simular to what you already got.
As for the biggest not a clue what you could fit in there but I have seen a 1999 ga with a corvette engine and a supercharger but thats alot of fabrication , youd have to build a rear end for it to handle rear wheel drive you will also need to reinforce the entire frame I think it includes a roll cage too. The entire engine bay will need reinforcing and bracing for the extra heavy engine and the tork it will produce and since the engine bay was designed for a side mounted v6 its gonna need alot of modifications. If your rich and bored then go for it but it would only cost several hundred bucks the right way to make the engine you got go as good as a 3.4 or a 3.8. All up too you.
