Warped head...
A guy I work with asked me to help him do an engine swap, and during the conversation he mentioned the guy he got his donor car from also has a Talon behind his house. I am going to look at it myself today, but according to my friend the body and interior are literally in showroom condition. I don't know the year yet, or if its the turbo, but I guess the guy told him the only thing wrong with it is a warped head, which I found both versions of on ebay for $100-$200. Another friend told me if the head is warped that means the rest of the engine is shot as well, but the guy who owns the car seems to think that it just needs a new head and gaskets. What do you think? He is only asking $500 o.b.o. for the car I am told, and if the body is in as good of shape as what I'm told I may get it even if it needs a new engine all together. Finnally to my question: Does anyone know if the head alone can be damaged when it warps, or does that infer other things are broken too? Any replies are appreciated.

Re: Warped head...
depending on the circumstances and the reason the head warped in the first place all you might need to have done is the head resurfaced/planed... the block can warp but its kinda rare to have a block warp! have the head checked and see if all the valves are good, make sure none are bent and if thats the case and its warped have the face resurfaced and you should be good to go. its fairly cheap to have done also! $500 is very reasonable even for a car with no motor, whether its a turbo or not, its still a good price if the body is in mint shape! good luck~

Re: Warped head...
masterofdragons;
I pretty much agree with what EclipseRST said. Unfortunately head warpage is usually related to the engine overheating, but not always. It is indeed rare for the block to warp, but if the car overheated severely there could be some other engine damage. There could also be some damage caused by antifreeze getting into the oil. However, for $500 I don't think you're taking a huge risk! What year is the car? Mark |

Re: Warped head...
yea, even if the engine is skrewed beyond repair, that body is worth alot more than $500 for parting out if it is muy bueno

Re: Warped head...
I just rebuilt a 95 turbo engine that had a warped head. The block needs A LOT more heat to warp because it is steel. I had my head ground down and rebuilt and put a shim in to make up for the space. The engine block was okay. The aluminum pistons were another story, They aluminum kind of smears when the engine gets really overheated- you may want to look into this as well.
