Keeping it kool

As I am sure most of you are aware, the 3.2 and 3.5 Isuzu engines are all aluminum and for those who are running antifreeze in them, you should be aware that they are prone to a coating build up on the inside of all elements of the water cooling system. This can create cooling problems, which isn’t always picked up by the sensor, for the same reason.

The folks a Mercedes have come across this problem also and provide a flushing medium which turns out to be citric acid crystals (lemon juice), which you can buy from then at less that $5 a shot, part number A000 989 10 25.

Empty as much of the cooling system as possible and replace drain plug. Dissolve half the tub of crystals in about a quart of hot water and add to radiator, then run the engine for about 10 minutes to get is well mixed and leave for an hour. Drain and flush the radiator a few times until the water looks clean, then top up with the coolant of choice and enjoy the ride.

I know draing the engines is a bit of a bear, but patience will be rewarded.

U think this is my problem??

I just bought a trooper 93 model, with 190xxx miles on it. 4wheel drive everything works, but it overheats when sitting idle with air on very long at all, say 10mins and it is redline. But if we drive through town or on highway we can blast the air with no problem. I just spent two days replacing the cooling hoses and getting the oh so fun oil filter adapter off so I could replace the broken copper line that was leaking coolant. anyway, i wondered if this is something you think would be caused by the buildup, or if i just can't run air while idle in these 3.2 dohc troopers. Thanks agian!
