should i buy an mr2?
im thinking of buying a new car, and im checking out an mr2. i read that the turbocharged model has roughly twice the horsepower and torque of the na model. does this come from the turbo? i was looking at a supra, but i realized that for where i live(boston) it would not be a good choice. you really see its power in high speeds, whereas i normally dont go more than 40. i want something faster off the line, and also something a lot smaller(small roads and parking spaces in the city). what can you guys tell me about the mr2? can you feel a kick, and also feel the bumbs in the road?

I chose the MR2 and find it's awesome while in College. The feul mileage is astronimical compared to almost any other vehicle in the parking lot.
I do feel bumps (LARGE Bumps that is) but it's an 86 and the suspension is a little old in my opinion. But for metro or urban driving it's great. I have the naturally aspirated engine and it's real strong. Not nearly as fast as my old Talon or my sisters WRX but for what I need it for, nothing else compares. Hope this helps by providing my experience. |

Re: should i buy an mr2?
I thought i wanted a supra, but when i test drove it i didnt like it because it was, well, too awsome. the ride was smooth, even when it bounced around it was smooth and you could only tell from the outside road. there was no kcik when driving it, it accelerated smoothly. you coudl feel a kick when teh turbo came in, but sort of a smooth kick; the car was like flying. what im looking for is something like my sentra. i can feel bumpy roads, the suspension dosnt really absorb it. you can feel hard turns in the car, and when you hit the passing gear it kicks forward harder than the supras turbo did. i rode in a viper once, and in that car you also feel everything. im really looking for a car like my sentra, but faster. i dont knwo if the mr2 is right for me(it is certainly hard to find), but do you guys think it is? or at least worth a testr drive? does anyone know of any other car they could recomment? thanx

Re: should i buy an mr2?
the mr2 is a good car to have if you can find one. it does have somewhat of a rough ride and there is alot of engine noise but that is some of the fun of having the car . it also has extremly good handeling so thats a plus for small spaces.the na engine would be your best bet. it is very quick off the line and in the lower gears

Re: should i buy an mr2?
If you are looking for something small and quick in the lower mphs, I would suggest an 88/89 Supercharged MR2.
Their low end is incredibly fun

Re: should i buy an mr2?
The 85-89 MR2s had the 4AGE engine.
In 88 and 89 the 4AGZE (supercharged) engine was an option. Supercharging an old MR2 is just as challenging any other normally asiprated car. Buying an 88/89 MR2 that is already supercharged from teh factory is much easier

Re: should i buy an mr2?
Throw on a $15 manual boost controller and it has twice the power.
