I have a 1991 montero, and just the other day when i was driving home from my coffee shop, it shut off while going down the road. Luckily I was just a mile away from home, so my father was able to come hook it up to his jeep and tow it home. When we got home, after the engine cooled off, the car started up fine. It ran ok for the next two days, minus the check engine light comming on periodically. Then when I had to drive it for a longer distance (about 10 miles) it shut off again.
It has always been a great car, and this is the first time I have ever had any problems with it. So far, we have checked all the spark plugs and wires, we have replaced the fuel filter, and all the belts were just replaced. One odd thing is that the fuel pump is not turning on when the key is turned to the "on" position. Usually you can hear the pump start without your car being started all the way.
Now the car is sitting in my driveway, and it won't start at all. If anyone has any idea on what is wrong and how to fix it, please let me know.
Thank you,
David
