H22A US or JAP
Because I plan to buy very soon an H22A jap, I wanna know what's the difference between the American one and the japanese.
I can buy it for 4000$ Can. or about 2500$ US and that includes everything, tranny, comp., headers... What do you think? Peace y'all, Raph...

the japanese ones run higher compression and advanced timing that makes the mix too lean with US grade fuels. you'll end up with less performance than if you get a US model H22A

Only the Prelude Type-S has more hp (sorry, don't know the engine code), I don't think it revs any higher than the USDM version.

they have more power due to higher compression, more aggressive cams, and advanced timing. they also have higher octane gas in japan to allow this. but in north america, we have crapgas, and cannot run an 11:1 compression motor efficiently... thus the loss of power. read my post fully before responding, and you'll see you asked a question that i already answered. |

Another shitty thing about JDM H22's is that they use an internal coil ignition system, all USDM H22's use external coils. Why in the hell the JDM model has an inferior ignition system is beyond me, but it does.

Thanks for the hints boys, it helped me a lot. By the way does anybody knows what's the octane level they use in Japan?
Thanks again very much... Peace y'all, Raph...

if you want to get that high of a compression motor running here in the US then you will have to use 105 octane racing fuel just to get it to run ok and compete with the "japanese gas" i guess you would call it.

Holy sh*t, 105 of octane, they're really running on that type of gas in Japan!!!
Now I understand that swapping this engine and riding it for a year gonna cost me the same as a regular turbo. Thanks again guys. Peace y'all, Raph...

Ps- I've seen a test motor running 12.3:1 compression on 87 octane, and yes that's without ridiculous amounts of ignition retard. The engine was simply designed for it, made 85 lb/ft of torque per liter and had a BSFC of 0.35:1 at the horsepower peak.
