Question Cracked Exhaust Pipe, Yikes $1000

I have a 2000, 2500 extended cab. 6.0.

Love it. My front pipe just cracked next to the flange that attaches to the manifold. Aparently this is typical.

Don't love that. I am told that Chevy has not released the specs for aftermarket pipes. This one includes a catalytic converter and is priced close to $1000. Yikes. We have tried to reweld the stainless. It cracked again. In Massachusetts you can not buy used exhaust pipes.

I am looking for a brilliant solution. Perhaps a work around for a perfect weld OR A place that sells genuine Chevy parts at a discount Or another aftermarket pipe OR a used pipe from another state that can be resold.

OR just a good dose of sympathy.

Jacob

Re: Cracked Exhaust Pipe, Yikes $1000

i feel real bad for you (sympathy)

take the pipe off and clean the metal up around the crack and reweld it inside and out, might want to take it to someone that welds for a living

try an exhaust shop and see if they can make a flared piece of pipe for flange end and cut old flange off and slip it over old pipe and clamp

or call an out of state junk yard and take a drive.

or get a custom true dual system made for truck, at that price you are probably more than half way there

Re: Cracked Exhaust Pipe, Yikes $1000

I have not seen any of these pipes cracking.
Usually this item is a "factory" only item for about 5 years until it is released for aftermarket sale.

Usually a good aftermarket exhaust shop can fabercate one for you.
