Skylines Drifting

I've seen videos of Skylines drifting. From what I understand Skylines are awd cars. Do they make a 2wd Skyline for it or do they drift with the awd Skylines?

Re: Skylines Drifting

I think most (or all other) models of skyline besides GTR are RWD.

You can still drift an awd vehicle though.

Re: Skylines Drifting

Wouldn't it be harder to drift with a AWD car?

much harder.

think about it. in a RWD car, the power to the rear wheels causes the rear to oversteer and step out.

in an FF, you yank the e-brake causing the back wheels to lock up and step out.

in an AWD car...all 4 wheels are powered, so the rears can't very easily over-power the fronts...and e-braking doesn't really do much either...

it's possible, but takes a bit more skill.

and yes, GT-R's are the only AWD Skylines. anything below that is RWD.

Re: Skylines Drifting

Theres only one drifting technique for 4wd cars. Full throttle. The less you gas the worse the understeer gets. Scary concept. But skyline did make a Rear Wheel skyline. Its the GT-S Type M or something like that. Im pretty sure there s a newer year.

R32 GTS4 - below a GT-R but is an awd Skyline.

Skylines are a tricky thing though, theyre not like other full time awd like a evo or impreza; their awd system only works in low grip situations and in lower gears.

Do you have a Skyline? Have you driven one? How do you know they're all that tricky? Don't mean to give you a hard time, just tired of 'fanboi's' who think they know all from reading about them in magazines.

And, if you say the Attessa AWD system only works in low grip situations and lower gears unlike EVO's and WRX's which are full time AWD. Wouldn't drifting be considered low grip situations? And are usually done in lower gears... thus, it'd always be in AWD mode during drifting?

So, as far as I see it... your point is moot.

I guess you misunderstood the post. What i meant by "tricky" is understanding the concept behind the awd system; i was trying to explain its differences from other, more comman awd systems. To answer your questions, no i dont have a skyline, and the closest thing to driving in one was riding in one. Besides, ever since the rotary bug bit me, i've been off the skyline's cock. But call me fanboy or whatever you want, doesnt bother me.

Which rotary car you got? and is Mazda the only company with rotary engines?

Re: Skylines Drifting

I own an 87 Mazda RX-7. To my current knowledge, mazda is the only company utilizing the rotary engine, however, other companies have experimented using them in the past.

Re: Skylines Drifting

I do recall one of GM's concept cars back in the 50's useing rotary engines. It was a cancept for the firebird III. I belive that was the name of it. Looked really spacemanish. Strap a few rockets to that thing and send it to space, thats how it looked and thats the look they were going for. I'm gonna try to find a pic of it

Re: Skylines Drifting

GM has 3 diffrent versions of that car. On the last car they made of them both the driver and the passanger can drive it, using a joy stick in the center console.
