We have a 2000 cavalier that has been doing the strangest thing when we apply the brakes. When backing up and then braking the car rises in the rear. Then when driving forward and then applying the brakes the car will pull down hard in the rear as well. This mainly happens in the morning after the car has been sitting for a while like over night.
We have had 10 different service centers give us different answers, such as master cylinder, pads, ABS system etc, etc, etc BUT NOBODY CAN FIX IT!!!!! Is their anyone that can help us with this? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! Ted |

Re: 2000 Cavalier brakes pull car.....
it sounds like your rear brakes are putting on too much pressure compared to your front ones. try this, back up or go forward like normal and just use the emergency brake. if the car reacts almost the same as when you normally use the brakes after its cold, you are getting to much pressure to the rear brakes. possible problems are: air in the front lines (possibly when changing the front brakes), the master cylinder could not be distributing pressure evenly, or even a malfuctioning rear brake part in the drums

Ok well we did the back up and emergency brake thing and it still raised up in the back so you think it's air or possibly master cylinder?

Re: 2000 Cavalier brakes pull car.....
re-bleed the front brakes. I agree with Perna00 that you have too much rear brake bias, and it is more than likely due to air in the front lines. The only other thing I can think of is that your rear shoes are contaminated and grabbing, but any mechanic should have seen fluid/grease on the shoes

also, you may need to bleed the master cylinder if you every let it run dry. probably just the front one though. btw, don't gravity bleed, do it right with 2 people

Re: 2000 Cavalier brakes pull car.....
if this happens after rain or damp morning then i had a similar problem, also if you drive off right away then stop does it grab then let go, but really hard, like the ABS is messing up?. My problem it had nothing too with brake lines and stuff, my mechanic, which I trust with my life, said it had to do with the ABS. he replaced the sensor and it hasn't happened since.

Re: 2000 Cavalier brakes pull car.....
i thought if the sensor was malfunctioning it would throw the abs light on the dash

i know, my light never came on so I thought it was something else but my mechanic was positive that the problem was the ABS, and he fixed it

still sounds like grabby or contaminated friction on the rear shoes to me
