Brake switch problem or ???
After driving my 1994 JGC, I get out of the vehicle and notice that the brake lights often remain on. I've had the brakes checked by a mechanic and no problems were noted. Is it possible/probable that the brake light switch (under the dash) is the culprit? Thanks in advance for any info!

Re: Brake switch problem or ???
make sure that the switch is properly secured. also on some cars there is a plastic/rubber peice on the brake pedal where the switch contacts...like a spacer or something, not sure if your vehicle has one. anyways inspect the switch... if all is ok. remove the wire to the switch and check you lights if it goes off, i would replace the switch if it stays on with the switch disconnected there is possibly a short!!

Re: Brake switch problem or ???
thanks hunda for the reply. You inspired me to check it out and here's what I found: there is no plastic/rubber piece or spacer on the '94 so I ruled that out. I removed the switch and checked the positions with a meter. Switch looks like its a plunger type and it "ratchets" as it goes in as it automatically adjusts. It looked like the plunger was too far in or out of adjustment. I extended it out, reinstalled, and released the brake in order for it to readjust. So far so good........will keep my fingers crossed. Again, thanks much for your reply!!!!
