If I put 87 Octane in my 325i by accident, will it affect my car? I always put the highest octane. I just totally forgot what I was doing and 14.00 later I realized I had put the wrong octane...it was a slow morning. Should I have any problems?

Re: I put the wrong gas in my Beemer - HELP
Have you had problems thus far? If not then don't worry. Worst case senario your car will run a little sluggish untill you work your way through the 87. If you are really pissed off then just take a nice cruise untill your down to a quarter tank and put it back up again with the high octane. Otherwise I think you will be fine.

run it till the reserve comes on then fill with 93, and some redline fuel treatment to clean it all out. dont worry your car wont die on you.

The ecu is programmed to compensate accordingly if the wrong octane is put in the tank. No harm should occur to the engine.

Re: I put the wrong gas in my Beemer - HELP
IT DOESN'T MATTER.
guess what? BMW programs ecu's with people like you in mind. besides, your car has a knock sensor. If you had an older car with a performance chip then you may have problems. Until january I'm stuck with my beater bimmer (HA not really a beater...) and I never put anything BUT 87 in it. I have no problems with knock... higher octane gas is only needed in high compression engines because it is more stable and less prone to predetonation. What the knock sensor does is retard/advance the ignition accordingly. I hope my rambling made at least partial sense.
