Question T-tops and vert question

Ok, I went back to school yesterday , and today I was talking with one of the girls in my class, and she was talking with me about Camaro's, and she said that she was going to get one, but her dad wouldn't let here buy it because it had t-tops.

So, how much does it affect the body between hardtop, t-tops, and verts if you are in an accident? (Obviously a vert would be horrible in a wreck if you have it down, I know that, but I've read online before that if it's up, it would be stronger than a hardtop. I've always thought that it was crap, but I could be wrong.)

Also, are the t-tops different from the 93-97 and the 98-02, because I have a 94 hardtop, and it is shaped in the ceiling of the car where it seems like you could easily put in a t-top conversion, but my uncle's 99 is shaped differently with his t-tops. It looks like mine would have more in between the t-tops if I had them, just wondering if I wasn't paying attention, or if I was correct?

Re: T-tops and vert question

Well a hard top car is always going to be the stronger one it a roll over accident and when adding so HP... When chevy built the 97 LT4 SS's they were all hardtops. 93-02 all have the same roof and the same t-tops. I am no 100% sure but I think the non t-top cars have a plastic/ fiberglass roof and the t-top cars have a metal one. But I'm sure that there is metal under the surface panel.

You probably could convert a non t-top car to a t-top car but it would be a lot of work and cost some $$$.

Re: T-tops and vert question

Oh, I know about the horsepower thing with the different tops. Even if I didn't know about it, I know that this girl won't do anything to add power unless her dad or boyfriend did it for her.

hard top to t-top conversions are actually really easy on any 4th gen camaro. if you go to a Chevy dealership they can have it done in a couple of hours.

Re: T-tops and vert question

I didn't know how much work was involved, so now I think I might get that done, but it is kinda good to be the only guy around that has a hard top.

Re: T-tops and vert question

there's always a danger factor in an accident. but since these guys answered the one part, ill answer the other part. all t-tops from any fourth gen (93-02) are interchangeable. however, this is purely asthetic, but in 97 chevy stopped using the saftey dot-tint (looked like crap) and started smoke tinting the t-tops (much better). just a bit of info for ya...

Re: T-tops and vert question

I always thought t-top equiped vehicles had a lot more support braces.. I was going to get a targa top put in but my car would have had to go through a safety certification afterwards..

t-tops are nice.. but every vehicle ive had or known someone whos had t-tops leak.. especially aftermarket t's.. If you do get t's.. Get subframe connectors and a strut tower brace
