Tamiya 1/20 Brabham BT50 BMW Turbo
Glad to share with you my new finished project.
It’s the Brabham BT50 BMW Turbo driven by Nelson Piquet in the 82 season. Hope you like it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

One of eight really old Tamiya models I still have to build. ![]() The decals were very yellowish and degraded. It was really difficult to apply them and I had to use some paint to repair some damages, especially in the angles. But overall it gave me a great pleasure to build this one. ![]() |

Looking great!
About yellowed, old decals: I think Microscale makes a product called "Liquitape" or "Super film". (could be some other company, I forget.) Basically what it is, is solution that you brush onto the decal. When it dries it forms a clear film of decal over the original decal, adhering itself to it, so your decals don't crack and flake and disintegrate. I'm not sure if I'm being too clear - imagine a window completely duct taped on one side to prevent shattering from an explosion - that's the best analogy I can come up with. |

First thank you all for your comments.
![]() Daggerlee: Thanks for your tip. I will by it ASAP. It was very difficult for me (and I’m a decal specialist, all my cars except one have decals) to apply them, especially the big ones were really cracked. As I have many old models to build and don’t know if I will have problems like this one Microscale Liquitape will be a great help. Ales: For sure I’ll take some outside pictures and a couple of pictures of my F1 collection, my pleasure ![]() Forhod: Yep, the white ones and all the borders were real bad. They were also slightly deformed for being so many years on the bottom of a pile of many kits. ![]() P.M.: Yes, all the first Tamiya F1 models came with the pilot. I like making them because first we immediately identify the car with a certain pilot, and also because it helps to have an idea of the scale of the car compared to a human. ![]() |

Gainesbourgh - I did some research and what you want is Microscale MicroFilm (or Micro Superfilm, or Liquid Decal Film, something along those lines!) , not Liquitape!! Liquitape is merely a temporary adhesive, Microfilm is a clear decal film. Hope this helps
