Wiper issue (again)

I've posted this many many times on this forum, but with no answers. My wipers don't seem to know their boundaries, as in the faster they go the harder they my hood. You can literally feel the smash in the pedals. But it doesn't do it all the time, it seems like the brakes affect them somehow. It's so annoying when it's raining really hard out and my wiper have to be on full in order to see, *smash smash* *smash smash*, and sometimes they don't know the upper boundary either, as in they hit the rubber on the far edge of the windshield.

Please, if anyone has any ideas.

Re: Wiper issue (again)

Hmmm...if they were only hitting on the base of the windshield, I was gonna say that you could just loosen the wiper arm nuts and adjust them so they sit a little higher...but then you said the driver's side wiper also hits the edge of the windshield. That makes me think the wiper linkage is either loose or just plain shot. When the wipers are parked, grab one of them and GENTLY try to move them by hand. If you're able to move them more than an inch or two, it's probably your linkage.

The linkage is pretty delicate and has some plastic parts that probably do wear out over time. Two winters ago I didn't realize my wipers were frozen to the windshield, and when I tried to turn them on, nothing happened. I got out, unstuck the wipers from the ice, still nothing. Some plastic pieces in the linkage had snapped. My usual mechanic couldn't get the parts, so I had to go to a dealer, who also didn't have the parts in stock and had to order them. $250 and 2 days to get them fixed. So that's probably what you're looking at if you want to get your wipers back in shape. I don't know how easy it would be to do this yourself -- I do know that you have to remove the cowling at the base of the windshield to access the linkage.
