Yes, it stinks like burning oil! Thank you for your response! It wasn't doing this before he changed. I asked if he wants the pre-gapped spark plugs or the regular...He said he'll gap them. It was also kinda dark. It's not running as smooth/fast and emitting the smoke! Thanks |

Re: Smoking!!! Does Spark Plugs Cause The
Well I doubt the new plugs caused it to burn anymore or less oil, that just sounds like a motor getting tired. How many miles? Though it sounds stuppid make sure all the plug wires are snapped on to the plugs good and anything he touched is connected back up properly. If a cylinder isn't firing because of a loose plug wire that will change how it runs and smokes. Wouldn't hurt to pull them back out and regap yourself.
What year/motor? Possible he goofed the firing order which would really make it pissed. |

Re: Smoking!!! Does Spark Plugs Cause The
Cylinder: one of your plugs isn't firing in the cylinder. Start with checking out all the connections, with almost 200k I wouldn't be surprised if it does smoke a little. Maybe replace the wires, if that was the first plug change your wires could be corroded.

LOL! LOL! LOL! Yeah, a little! I mean, right after he changed it, it smokes like Im James Bond's Smokescreen! :-) Yeah, I've had a few tune-ups! The wires were new, but as I said, he may have rushed, I will check and see if they are snapped on, and I will have someone re-gap them, I know how to put them in, but no gap em! I think he may have no even remember what gapping the autozone guy told him either, I will definitely check though! I greatly appreciate your help Dirtsled and do thank you! |

Re: Smoking!!! Does Spark Plugs Cause The
If the plugs were fouled when he changed them, you may not have seen the smoking. With new plugs it will burn the oil too (for a while anyways till they foul out again). Go ahead and check the gaps and wires but my bet is the old plugs were fouled out and not burning everything and the new plugs are. It doesn't explain why you seam to have a misfire. That would indicate bad wires if they were not changed also. The boot around the plug can be difficult to pull off if they have been on there for a while. He may have damaged one of the wires trying to pull it off (can't tell unless you pull the boot back and look at the filament contacting the end piece). And again if it doesn't "click" or snap on to the plug when you push the boot over the plug then it isn't going to fire correctly. If you did have new wires installed, then its possible 2 of them could have gotten switched, but it wouldn't accelerate or idle worth a darn if that is true.
Any of the above can cause excessive smoking and poor response. But don't be surprised if you see some smoking after you find the problem. |
