There is replacement for displacement!
Add some technology and turbo
In my view, I see Japanese cars as elegant and durable plus high tech. I see American cars as big, old-tech, and "you'll have to visit your dealer for repair 2 days after you buy it" kind of cars. I really like some American cars though. Viper and Corvette. Also, generally I view Cadillacs (except Catera) as more of European than American. Their technology is superb and I actually like the styling. Not to mention they are American cars that actually use DOHC enignes!
I hate SOHC, OHV and all that BS. Especially PUSHROD - It's old! :}

what i like about japanese cars is their durability. these old pieces of junk will drive no matter how you abuse them.

want to drive 40mph over speedbumps for couple of years - no problemo!
wreck it into 2 minivans (shit happens) - and no leaks or any other damage besides broken headlight...

american cars have an advantage though - they always stay beautifull, since they die young.

in case no one got it - that was a flame designed to start a japanese vs american cars thread.

Well, I had a '94 sentra and I disliked it. It drove well, but the AC made noises, the automatic shoulder belts got stuck, and it just had many little problems like that. Granted, a lemon can come about through any car.

I like American cars for their performance. There are a lot of wonderful Integras and NSX's, out here (and many others), but like the old addage goes...There's no replacement for displacement. That low gurgle of a Mustang GT is so sweet compared to the pathetic hum of a tuned civic.

Sure, if you're going for a car you can drive for a few hundred thou, get an econobox, I mean, I have one...but there's just something about American cars that is fun.

Talking Japanese VS American Iron

I have a 2000 Sentra GXE that I use as a daily driver so that I don't have to drive the Vette during the winter. Both cars are fun to drive, however, the Nissan is no comparison to the Vette for power and handling. The Sentra is fun to throw around curves, very nimble, but the Vette will eat it alive in the curves and on the straight strethes it will just leave it in the dust. Nissans, Hondas and Toyotas will last 250-300K miles if properly maintained. I've owned five Corvettes, but none of them had more than 150k on them so can't speak for them on longivity. Our previous Vette was a '72 with about 75k on the clock. Have a nice one guys.

true about the long running part...my sentra has been in my family since the late 80s...no american car would last that long without some serious problems now i think that old nissan sentras will probably be like rats and cockroaches..they'll survive anything even a nuclear attack

Re: Nissan Sentra 89

Right, I'd love to see the 426 Hemi competitor the Japanese are going to propose to build. Let's see, what types of cars are holding world records?

"There is no replacement for displacement," and you can only bore so much on a beer can.

"Wrenching - A truly american artform!" And I thank you.
