Stereo wiring diagram for 04 Xterra

I am looking for a stereo wiring diagram for an 04 Xterra with the standard radio with CD player and a-pillar tweeters. I checked and according to Ultimate Electronics, a wiring harness is not made for the Xterras. So far, I have found the memory wire, ground wire, and the power wire. I need to know what wires go to what speakers.
I think that I have found why there is no harness made, because when I pulled the speakers out of the doors, they were 2 ohms speakers (Nissan...what were you thinking???)

Some reason this wasn't posted in the "Radios and GPS" section?

It would help if I post a thread to the right section. However, I did find an adapter that would work, Crutchfield sells it.

Re: Stereo wiring diagram for 04 Xterra

I bought that harness (Nissan 95 & up) and the adapters fit, but all the wires do not match up. The red and yellow wires are fine, but the ground on the harness goes to a blank slot on the factory harness. The factory radio uses the case of the radio as a ground. I discovered this when I tried to turn on the factory radio with the connectors still attached, but not mounted. It wouldn’t turn on until I set it in the factory location and the radio case touched the metal that it mounts to. Looks like I will have to hardwire the ground to the chassis.
Because my Premiere 740MP is a single din and this has a double din opening, I will be making a custom plate to cover around the radio and my bass volume knob. I am thinking of getting a can of paint matched to my exterior color (metallic graphite) and using that. Exterior colors on the inside seem to be the going thing. I made a custom plate to around the deck in my wife’s Maxima but I left that the flat black like her interior. On the Xterra, I am looking for something a little showier. I will post pictures on my website when it is complete. www.diycarstereo.com

I had to connect the grounding wire to the chassis also because of the xterra connector not having a ground. However, I have no sound out of the speakers. After playing around with the stock stereo I discovered that the smaller of the 2 plugs must be connected for the speakers to work. This leads me to believe the Amplifier Turn-on wire on the harness is used. Did you have to use it? My kenwood has a Power Control wire which I am wondering if that is what it needs to hook to. I would like to find out before I connect it and fry something.

Ok, I couldn't stand waiting. I looked over the diagrams and I am sure that is what the wire is for and I tried it and I have sound. I did not do anything with the Amplifier Shield Ground which the diagram says to connect to chassis of receiver. I am guess if it is needed, it is grounding through the normal ground wire.

I would like to know what others have done here. I am using a Kenwood KDC-MPV619

Re: Stereo wiring diagram for 04 Xterra

I called Crutchfield and they said there is an amp in the xterra's and that the wire is to turn on the amplifier. I was not aware the xterra had a seperate amp. Does anyone know the wattage of the amp? I have an SE with the 6-disc changer. The guy at Crutchfield said he thought it might be 20 watts and should not cause a problem. I am skeptical about that cause my Kenwood puts out max 50W and Full Bandwidth Power 22W (not really sure what the diff is. That is what the manual says).

Re: Stereo wiring diagram for 04 Xterra

When putting a new stereo in my '01 Xterra using a wiring harness I also ran into the grounding problem. Initially I just attached the aftermarket ground to the chassis, but then I tried to put the 6 disc changer into my ‘91 Maxima so I could sell it. It seems that my X setup uses the antenna as a source for grounding. I'm not sure if it's the only source but the changer wouldn't work in my Max until I plugged the antenna in. I hardly ever listen to the radio so I rarely plug in, but since I'm selling my Max I thought it to be a good idea.
I didn't use the remote on wire from my aftermarket stereo on the harness because I have an amp in the back and I didn't have any problems getting the speakers to work, maybe 04's have the amp and the '01 doesn't.
