I own a 2001 chev silv extended cab. When I have the engine off the gas peddle moves freely and smothly, when I have the engin on and push on the peddle it gives alot of resistance, i will aply presure on the peddle but the peddle does not move, then i apply more pressure and the peddle snaps forward causeing the truck to acelerate abruptly. I have tryed lubricateing the pivot points on the gas peddle inside the cab but it does not do anything. If anyone has any sugestions please let me know, anything to hopefuly get this fixed on my own insted of bringing it to the auto shop and getting riped off.
Thanks to anyone who responds. |

Yep, gotta clean that throttle body with some carb/choke cleaner. May have to do it more than once. Should make a noticeable difference.

don't use carb cleaner. use throttle body cleaner. I was told by a tech that sea foam works real good to for cleaning the throttle body. He said not to use carb cleaner cuz it has chemicals in it that could harm the throttle body. My local dealer say he would clean it for $100. I told him he should replace it for free cuz there is a tech bulletin out for this problem. If your truck is under warranty they replace the throttle body for free.

Re: Stiff/Sticky gas peddle
This problem started with the 99 model year ls1 based engines and I happened to have it. I used b12 chemtool on it to clean the tb bore and where the butterfly pivots. The dealer did replace it per the tsb however the new part still did the same thing after a few months so I just periodically cleaned it when I felt it start to stick again.

Re: Stiff/Sticky gas peddle
Here's one for all you Hi mileage owners! The TBI throttle shaft will actually wear down and allow the butterfly to settle too far into the throat. This causes serious binding (sticking) which also is worse when the engine is running and vacuum is on it. My 312,000 mile 91 has had this problem for 200,000 miles : )

I have a 99 Silverado with the 5.3 and I had the same sticky throttle problem. Thanks to this site I was able to resolve this issue with some throttle body cleaner. Easy fix to a very annoying problem. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Stiff/Sticky gas peddle
Just read about this on this forum. Mine has been sticky since I got it - about 6 months now. Last night I went and got some TB cleaner (O'Reilly brand) and used a rag and a nylon brush and cleaned the TB well. It is now like new - smooth gas! Thanks.
