good first car...?

ok im still a good bit away from my first car...but i have been of a 240 disposition for some time now. Would a stock 240 in average condition be ok for a 1st car. My plans would be to keep the KA totally stock. but from i was 17 start building a SR to swap into it when i was a few years down the line.mainly due to being strap for cash. This should take the sting out of my premiums. The sr i was goingot swap in would have some mods but i am not aiming for a blisteringly fast car. just sumthing that will put up a decent show from light to light and will be a hoot through the twisties. so I'm not trying to push the car too far.

1. what are the stock numbers on the KA someone said in the area of 150?? and this is the S13 clip isn't it? Bearing in mind I am in Scotland so a 240 is actually called a 200 here i think.(different from your 200...wich is a 2dr sentra ??)

2.someone said that they got a quote of £1200 fully comp. (in britain) for a 17 year old?? does anyone have anything to back this up, If not what sort of price am I looking at?

3.I am 14 just now so i would intend doin a swap in just under 5 years. I am fairly mechanically minded and have a realitivley deep car knowledge for my age...do you think with the help of my father we would be able to perform the swap or would it be better geting a shop to perform the actual swap?? This is a while away and i should know alot about the 240 although i wont have had much hands on experience...(can it be done with a mechanical background or is it very complicated??)

4. any other thoughts would be welcomed..

all comments appreciated

-Lewis

(sorry if this is covered in the sitckies...i started reading them but they were mainly about performance and this more from a money and ease perspective)

Re: good first car...?

my friend, if you have a 200sx s-chassis then you are already equipped with an sr20. just make sure you get the k's turbo version.

Re: good first car...?

I thought the 200sx was different in britain than other places....ok well what i was looking at was a RHD KA or (maybe SR depending on the insurance lol my biggest constricting factor.) if i got a ka i would prefer the turbo but if it was N/A i could survive until i do the swap...what do you think of my chances of pulling of the swap??

Re: good first car...?

thats gonna be a problem cause there was never a rhd ka

unless some idiot in europe read too much automotiveforums and was planning to go ka24 (hahahahahaha dont get me wrong, ka-t is great, but if you started out with an sr...why complicate things?)

but all in all, if you know how to swap engines already, it should be a peice of cake....or haggus....w/e you kilt wearing bastards eat (jk)

personally im still learning and im not able to swap an engine in myself, id need a couple buddies to help me out.

the ka->sr swap is basically a drop in kinda thing

Re: good first car...?

Its haggis...yeah we ewar kilts and chase three legged haggis' around hills...did u kno all their legs are different sizes so they cn do hills faster

lol...i would prefer an sr20...even though the ka is meant 2 b a better drift engine. but i was under the impression they had a higher insurance. and insurance in britain is an absolute killer.

this is getting better...if i could get an sr20 i could just keep it stock and then start upgrading it after a while...as im sure the car would be better than me for a while. If i was planning to keep it stock should I be looking at any particualr years and i guess under 80k miles...or are they all heavily used??

Re: good first car...?

Its all about boucing it off the rev limiter when you drift bro. You cant hold a drift well at 2k rpms. Trust me, i found out the hard way. KAs tend to break when you try and drift 'em. But if you want a KA, ill take your SR when you get it. Ill even get you a good deal on a KA. Really good deal, i mean....we can trade even! Your so lucky to know me...

lol no il happily take the Sr but i am pretty new 2 240s so excuxe my ignorance. I thought it came with the ka...i wouldnt swap one for an sr. I dont think i will do the swap as it is a big task... fair enough finding the new manifolds bust...but a whole motor..nah.

So the european model somes with a sr20? and is called a 200sx...am i right so far. Did they make hicas and what years. I am going to avoid it due to maintenece and not being good for drift. also before i get confused any further what is the front end...s13...14...15 etc... I never new there were so many models lol . i take it youd all recommend the car as a good 1st car or am i just most likely to plough into a hedge??

Re: good first car...?

insurance depends on car and driver, not engine.

so if thats the only problem, dont sweat
