Engine rebuilding pics

Well I posted the question about Roller rocker installation and Ridge said he wouldnt mind seeing my engine rebuild pics, so I figured Id make a new thread for them. Enjoy :

Here are some pics of the 454 im rebuilding to go in my Nova. 1st pic is of the engine when i bought it, minus the intake. Paid 325 for the motor and pulled it from a running Suburban.

Next are a few pics of after I pulled the heads off and dropped the oil pan. I could have dropped the motor in without a rebuild and It probably woulda held another 40k miles, but I tore it apart to be safe.

Next we have the pistons and rods gone. I did a cylinder Hone then put it all back together again while changing all the bearings/rings and switched a few things to ARP bolts along with putting a Melling hi volume oil pump in

Now we have the complete bottom end together.

Last we have a couple pictures of how the motor now sits. I bought the heads off of ebay. These heads are Number matching to the Ls-6 450 HP 454 Chevelle motors. They have Manley stainless 2.19/1.88 valves, bronze valve guides, a Comp Cams double valve spring set with a lift good up to 670, ARP studs, the heads are bowl hogged and I was going to get them shaved but they are closed chamber heads so my compression is already going to be about right where I want it. I got a pretty good deal on the heads as they were ready to bolt on when I recieved them.

And thats how it sits. I have roller rockers and an intake coming in the mail tomorrow, so I hope to have it together and running on the stand by Wednesday... Enjoy the pics.

Yessir they are stock pistons. The ridges on the sides of the pistons were stil clearly visible so I knew they were still good. I just soaked them in gas and cleaned them off with a wire brush.

The carb (atleast for a little while) is going to be a holley 850. Im not a huge fan or holley as I find them to be to tempermental, but it will have to do for awhile. The intake is gonna be an Edelbrock Performer dual plane. I plan to get a new cowl induction hood when time permits and either put a Weiand Team G or an AIrgap, but right now i just dont havethe room. The cam is a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam with a .574/.578 lift. I have crunched all these numbers into desktop dyno using a 8.5 compression ratio (with the heads im pretty sure mine will be around 9-9.5) and it shows somewhere in the 500 hp/520 torque range at the flywheel. I realize desktop dyno isnt 100% accurate, but If i can get somewhere near that ill be happy. The heads are responsible for alot of the power this motor is going to produce because no shortcuts were taken with them.
