Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
Did you know that the Texas State Police stoped a CC8S with 389 Km/h back in 2003 ?
This is the first offical topspeed for the CC8S confirmed by the Police and van Koenigsegg after having contact to the owner! This story was told by Christian van Koenigsegg himself to a german car mag. In September will be the first offical Topspeedtest for the CCR in Nardo. Theoretically it could reach over 400 km/h in 6th gear..... |

Uhhhhh...we just have to see then...in sept.
Personally I think it's BS that the police have measured that speed! Even on a racetrack those speeds are rare...I can't belive someone drove that fast on a regular road without beeing insane and have the best possible of conditions..... |

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
no way he would have been able to find a stretch of road to support a speed like that. where can someone drive a car like that at that speed like that without going off a cliff or something?

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
Actually there are quite a few places in the United States to accomplish such a test, but they are relatively inaccessible/not safe for a driver to be away from emergency medical care etc. in case of a mishap. Nevada, Montana, and Western Utah all have long smooth paved roads that strecth for dozens of miles into the distance, mainly usable in late summer. The hard part of attempting such a feat is the resources invloved in bringing such an effort to light. This means bringing a team to verify your speed along a closed course. The said areas I have mentioned above usually have quite brutal climactic conditions where if one were to be stranded in case of failure, things can get quite tough to handle with no outside support. Theres alot more to it than just driving your car til' the needle is "pegged", it needs planning and verification to be taken seriously.

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
This was only a quote out of a car mag....
It should prove the potential of that car. BTW a Koenigsegg Test Driver reached 384 on a Runway of an Military Airbase, and those Runways are not that long as those from normal Airports. I myself think its possible to reach that speed easily. You just need a straight of a couple of km's. Remember the 391 where reached on the 5 km straight of Ehra..... So, I do think there are longer straights than 5 km in the US / Texas, so it could be possible! If you visit the F60/Enzo thread there's a Dash Board pic prove that an Enzo has run 366 at Gumball! Thats not that much slower....... |

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
the ehra straight is about 9km if i'm not mistaken, average speed is 100 m/s, for far more than a minte, probably one and a half:
90 secs x 100 is 9000 meters |

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
I'm not quite sure, on racingcircuits.net is written that the whole track is 10 Km long.
(Click on Germany and then on Ehra below on the page) |

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
For me, a speed of 389 km/h is possible BUT with a good quality road and a "radar" cannot record such a speed !
In France, they made a test with police on a closed highway and the Enzo was not recorded at 353 km/h (it is the Supercar Rally Enzo) but the GT2 yes at 317 ! The official speeding record in France is 302 km/h by a Diablo and unnoficial is above 310 by a F40. If I had a 400 km/h car, I would tke it on highway A5 in France from Paris to Troyes. I think it could be done here ![]() I cannot believe a speeding at 389 ! Ciao Phil |

I know that most of you are not familiar with Texas so I'll add my
worth. I have been to west Texas a few times and can tell you that there are a number of places in west Texas that very well could support those speeds. Whether it happened or not doesn't really matter. While doing it you'd be at risk of hitting some wayward animals crossing the road, but not much else. It's pretty sparce. If someone would have clocked the speed it would have been the Texas Highway Patrol better known as the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Let's face it that it is just a matter of time until someone exceeds the McLaren speed record, but I think that it needs to be a verified speed and not just rumor. And when it happens it will be just fine. Being the fastest is strictly that. The arguments will rage forever about which one is the best, but they are from a different time and being fastest doesn't make you the best. It is just too bad that development didn't continue on the Mclaren, kind of wonder what would come out of the think tank now. It's all subjective and up to individual preferences anyway, and that's why there are sooo many different cars. Make mine McLaren

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
I'm a Texas resident, and what Mpowered said was true.
Although hard to find sometimes, some roads can stretch for several miles and be perfectly straight. I've personally been on one and stopped somewhere in the middle to rest, and there wouldn't be another car for 20 minutes. |

Re: Koenigsegg 389 Km/h !!!
wtf is this.... you don't even need a long straight road to reach this speed on a CC8S. Maybe the F1 needs 100 mile straight road to reach 231... not Koenigsegg. There are a lot of Koenigg bashers around here... pathetic..... LOL
