chevy 305 engines
i was wondering if anyone had any information/opinions on chevy small block 305's. I know they don't compare to 350's,but my dad's got one in his old work van that i could get. is it worth saving and rebuilding. Aftermarket and performance parts seem few and far between. Anybody have any suggestions?

Re: chevy 305 engines
Most performance parts for the 350 work on all SBC engines. You could rebuild the 305 and later on if you feel you still need more you could got to the 350 and already have most of the parts you need.

i thought the 305 is the same block as the 350 so you could always bore it i think

Re: chevy 305 engines
305 is the same block as a 350. the only difference is the bore size. the crank and rods are the same. i believe a 305 has a bore diameter of 3.75" and the 350 has a bore diameter of 4.00". you should be able to bore the 3.75" out to 4.00" the 350 blocks are so cheap now a days you will spend more money boring the 305 out than you would getting a good usable 350 complete engine.

Re: chevy 305 engines
Yip, 305 and a small block 350 are the same hunk of iron.
Go with a 350, never settle for a 305. |
